A second fatality was reported earlier this week in the April 15 car accident that occurred in Northfield. The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. April 15 on Willow Road, at the curving portion between Wagner and Sunset Ridge.
Police say Silvia Garcia-Segura, 22, of Chicago, was driving eastbound, crossed the center line and collided with a SUV driven by Glenview resident Soo H. Shin, 63.
Garcia-Segura had no driver’s license, according to Northfield Police Chief Bill Lustig.
Garcia-Segura, of the 6400 block of North Damen Avenue, Chicago, had to have the roof cut off of her car to allow her extrication. She was then transported to Evanston Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m., according to a Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman.
Shoo Shin was also taken to Evanston Hospital in critical condition until Monday evening when he died, Lustig said.
The medical examiner’s spokeswoman said Shoo Shin’s autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
It is currently unknown as to the causes and speeds involved in the accident, according to Lustig. An investigation is ongoing.
According to Lustig, Willow Road east of Waukegan Road, hasn’t had a fatal auto accident in at least 30 years.
