Accidents Caused By Drivers Impaired By Drugs And Chemical Inhalation

On Labor Day 2012 (September 3, 2012) there was a pedestrian accident in Highland Park which led to the death of Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento, 5, as well as injured other family members that were walking with her at the time.  The accident happened after a car drove onto a sidewalk along Central Avenue.

On this site, the accident and subsequent legal issues – including the associated wrongful death lawsuit that was filed – are discussed in the following posts in chronological order:

The February 9, 2018 Highland Park News article titled “Woman who was convicted in ‘huffing’ crash that killed Highland Park girl is out of prison” provides a recap of the accident as well as subsequent legal situation, including the recent release of the driver (Carly Rousso) from prison.

As mentioned in the article:

Prosecutors said Rousso was inhaling fumes from a keyboard cleaning product behind the wheel of her father’s Lexus when she lost consciousness, went across several lanes of traffic in downtown Highland Park and struck a local woman who was walking with her three children.

Drivers who drive while impaired by drug use, often referred to as “drugged drivers,” has increasingly become a traffic safety problem.  “Drugged driving” has been the cause of many accidents, including fatal accidents, in the Chicago area.  While the drugs used vary, any such drug use can cause the driver to become (substantially) impaired and lead to an accident.  The subject of drug-impaired drivers, as well as the accidents and injuries such impaired driving has caused, is further discussed on the “Car Accidents Involving Drivers Under The Influence Of Drugs” page.

Additional details regarding the fatal pedestrian accident involving “huffing” as well as the broader subject of drug-impaired driving can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
