8-Year-Old Girl Critically Injured During Beach Park Bicycle Accident

There was a bicycle accident Sunday evening (July 23, 2017) in Beach Park.  An 8-year-old girl was critically injured.

According to preliminary crash investigation information provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the accident scene at approximately 7:10 p.m.  The accident occurred at West Everett Street and Cornell Road.

An 8-year-old girl from Zion was struck by a pickup truck as she road her bicycle.

An excerpt regarding the accident, from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, as seen in the July 24, 2017 Lake County News-Sun article titled “8-year-old critical after being struck while riding bike in Beach Park“:

“Preliminary investigation shows a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 30-year-old man of Beach Park, was traveling westbound on Everett Street,” the statement added. “The bicyclist (was) riding her bicycle in the roadway, in the same area. The Chevrolet and bicyclist collided and the girl was ejected from the bicycle.”

The girl was critically injured, and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The traffic accident investigation continues and is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.

Ingleside Bicycle Accident Involving Serious Injuries

There was a Lake County bicycle accident Tuesday night (March 28, 2017) in Ingleside.

According to preliminary crash investigation findings provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident involved a collision between a 17-year-old Ingleside male riding a bicycle and a SUV.

The collision occurred at Wilson Road and Rollins Road.

An excerpt regarding the crash, as seen in the March 29, 2017 Lake County News-Sun article titled “Teen bicyclist critical following collision with SUV in Ingleside“:

The bicyclist was traveling southbound on Wilson wearing dark-colored, non-reflective clothing about 9:30 p.m., according to Lake County Sheriff spokesman Christopher Covelli. A Chevy Trailblazer driven by a 54-year-old Ingleside man was heading west on Rollins, Covelli added, and the two collided in the intersection of Wilson and Rollins.

The bicyclist was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of his accident injuries, which were considered to be serious injuries. He was reported to be in critical condition as of early Wednesday.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt in the collision.

The fault of the crash does not appear to be publicly disclosed at this time.  At this time no traffic citations have been issued.

This bicycle accident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.

One cause of bicycle accident is when bicyclists are struck from behind by vehicles.  In many cases this occurs when the motorist is driving after drinking or under the influence of drugs.

One prominent example of bicyclists being struck from behind by a SUV happened in June of 2016 in Morris, Illinois.   The accident led to the death of two bicyclists.

Another prominent example of this type of fatal bicycle accident happened in Michigan (in Kalamazoo County) on June 7, 2016. Five bicyclists died and four were injured after the driver of a SUV crashed into a group of bicyclists.

Another fatal crash, involving two bicyclists, occurred in Michigan in October 2016.  That accident is discussed in the October 9, 2016 mlive.com article titled “Bicyclist killed in crash was active, energetic grandmother, cautious cyclist.”

Boy Hurt After Bicycle Accident In Lake Forest

There was a bicycle accident on Monday afternoon (October 10, 2016) in downtown Lake Forest.  A 12-year-old boy suffered minor injuries during the accident.

According to Lake Forest Police Commander Craig Lepkowski, the accident happened in the 200 block of East Westminster Avenue.

An excerpt from the Daily North Shore article of October 11, 2016, titled “Boy OK After Bike-Car Collision“:

The youngster was riding his bicycle with friends just before 4:15 p.m. when he left the sidewalk in a business parking lot and rode into traffic where he was hit by an approaching vehicle, Lepkowski said. His injuries were minor.

Bicycle-Pedestrian Accident On Skokie Valley Bike Path

The August 8, 2016 Daily North Shore article, titled “Cyclist Crashes into Pedestrians on Bike Path” discusses such a crash.   As further discussed in the article, the crash involved a bicyclist striking a pedestrian on the bike path along the railroad tracks (Skokie Valley Bike Path) south of Route 176.  After the collision, one pedestrian was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment of their accident injuries.
