There was a fatal collision between a Jeep and semi truck on Thursday morning (October 12, 2017) in Newport Township. The collision, according to preliminary crash investigation findings, involved the Jeep crossing the center line and striking the truck which was traveling in the opposite lane.
According to information provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in a media release titled “Fatal Traffic Crash in Newport Township.”
An excerpt from the release:
Preliminary investigation shows the Jeep, driven by 38 year-old woman of Geneva, IL, was traveling eastbound on Russell Road. For an unknown reason, she crossed the double-yellow center divider, and struck the westbound Volvo Tractor-Trailer, being driven by a 65 year-old man of Kenosha, WI.
As part of the collision, the Volvo truck overturned and rolled into a ravine on the south side of the roadway.
The driver of the truck was declared dead after being taken to St. Catherine’s Medical Center in Kenosha.
The driver of the Jeep was also taken to St. Catherine’s Medical Center. She was treated and released.
The traffic crash investigation is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
