Fatal Pedestrian Accident In Chicago

Yesterday, a 76-year-old woman was killed in downtown Chicago as she was walking in a crosswalk and was struck by a bus’s mirror. The accident happened near Union Station, and the bus involved was a Megabus.

The woman, Donna Halstead, of Chicago, was walking northbound on Canal Street, crossing Adams at approximately 2:20 p.m., when she was struck by the bus’s side mirror. She fell to the pavement and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.

Police said the driver of the Megabus, Shemeka Hudson, 32, was cited with failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Hudson was tested, but was not found to be under the influence of any substance.
