Icy Road Conditions Lead To Various Lake County Car Accidents

Over the last couple of days (January 6 & January 7, 2014) there have been many Lake County and Chicago-area car accidents.  Many of these car accidents were (at least in part) due to the coldest temperatures in two decades – reaching as low as -16 degrees – and accompanying various dangerous winter driving conditions including black ice conditions on Illinois roads.

A couple of excerpts from the CBS Chicago article of January 7, 2014 titled “Deep Freeze Continues; So Do Icy Road Conditions” :

Though no fresh snow has fallen since Sunday, subzero temperatures have rendered road salt ineffective, and even some de-icing chemicals haven’t done enough to clear streets of packed snow and ice.

Some roads might look clear, but there is plenty of black ice – hidden slick spots – leading to spin-outs and crashes on area roads.

Illinois State Police said at least 60 crashes had been reported on Chicago area highways so far on Tuesday. Hundreds more crashes and spinouts were reported statewide on Monday, with state police assisting at least 2,500 stranded motorists.

As far as Lake County car accidents and other hazards are concerned, various car accidents and stalled vehicles were reported by the Lake County Passage system for January 6 and January 7.  Route 120, Route 176, I-94, and a variety of other Lake County state routes, expressways and roads had vehicle accidents.

Additional details and possible updates regarding these Illinois car accidents can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the CBS Chicago article mentioned above and the Lake County Passage system.
