Lake County Drunk Driving And Seat Belt Enforcement Initiative

Drunk driving continues to be a significant traffic safety concern both nationally as well as in the Chicago area, including in Lake County.  On this site, Lake County accidents involving drunk driving (as well as crashes involving drivers impaired by drugs, i.e. “drugged driving”) are summarized in posts under the “DUI” category.

Drunk driving is often more frequent during various times of the year, including holiday periods as well as around major sporting events, such as the Super Bowl.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office released the results of a 3-day (February 2 – February 5) enforcement period over the Super Bowl.  The results are summarized in the February 6, 2018 Grayslake Patch article titled “70 Citations Issued During Super Bowl Enforcement.”  An excerpt:

The Super Bowl weekend ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket’ enforcement effort ran from Friday, Feb. 2, through the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 5. The focus of the campaign was to keep impaired drivers off the roads and get more people to buckle up.

As seen in the article, among traffic safety related actions there was one DUI arrest and 39 citations issued for failure to wear seat belts.  (the safety benefits of wearing seat belts is discussed on “The Safety Benefits Of Wearing Seat Belts” page.)
