Motorist Sued In Naperville Illinois Motorcycle Crash

A man from Naperville, Illlinois who allegedly wrote on facebook of his readiness to drive at high speeds has been sued by a motorcyclist he struck last month near the Herrick Lake Forest Preserve.

The personal injury lawsuit seeks more than $50,000, and was filed Wednesday in DuPage County Circuit Court on behalf of Michael Dunker, 60, of Aurora.

Both Dunker and his girlfriend Corrine Smith, 60, of Aurora, were severely injured on September 9 in an accident near the intersection of Warrenville and Herrick Roads in Naperville.    The motorcycle they were riding on, a 2005 Harley Road Glide, was hit by a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Revanth Vema, 28.  The Accord, heading westbound, crossed over into the eastbound lanes of Warrenville Road.  It struck another vehicle before colliding with the stopped motorcycle, according to Naperville Police.

Both Dunker and Smith were hospitalized as a result of the accident.  According to Dunker’s attorney, Dunker suffered a fractured skull, brain swelling and “multiple fractures to his upper and lower extremities.”

According to Dunker’s attorney, Smith sustained “very serious lower extremity injuries” that required her to undergo “multiple surgeries.”

Both Dunker and Smith are recovering.

Vema is awaiting trial in traffic court on a charge of driving on the wrong side of the road.

Dunker’s attorney said several pre-crash photographs of Vema’s Accord were posted on his facebook page.  A caption under one read, “… ready to drive at 90 mph.”

The photo and caption were still posted to the Facebook page as of late Friday night.

According to Dunker’s attorney, eyewitness accounts say that the Accord was traveling at a very high rate of speed.
