There was a major accident on the Tri-State Tollway this morning (July 12, 2013) in Gurnee, Illinois that involved 6 vehicles and sent 14 people to area hospitals.
It is being reported that the accident happened at approximately 10:49 a.m., in the northbound lanes, approximately 1 mile before the Grand Avenue exit. The vehicles involved included three SUVs, 2 cars, and a semi, according to the Illinois State Police.
According to various media sources citing police reports, the three SUVs and two cars were stopped in traffic. The semi was unable to reduce speed, and it struck the two of the vehicles, which in turn caused a “chain reaction” – type accident in which the remaining vehicles were hit.
The accident remains under investigation.
