Yesterday, a pedestrian accident occurred when a Skokie, Illinois police officer in pursuit of a speeding SUV struck a pedestrian at approximately 9:00 a.m.
The pedestrian injured is reported to be a 33-year-old Chicago resident.
The injuries appear non-life threatening, but required hospitalization, according to police.
The police officer – a 25-year police veteran – was uninjured.
The accident occurred after the police officer, who was monitoring traffic via radar, saw an SUV speeding. As the police officer made a U-turn to pursue the SUV, he lost control of the police car, and hit several parked cars and then the pedestrian who was on a sidewalk. Wet pavement is being attributed to the loss of control of the police car.
