An excerpt from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office September 17, 2018 media release titled “Waukegan Man Intentionally Causes Traffic Crash in Shields Township, Injuring 1-Year-Old“:
Preliminary investigation shows a 2008 Honda, driven by a 22-year-old female of Waukegan, was traveling southbound on Route 41, north of Route 176. The vehicle was also occupied by a front seat passenger, Derwin E. Guadarrama-Jimenez, 22, of the 100 block of South Elmwood Avenue, Waukegan, a 15-year-old boy back seat passenger, and a 1-year-old male back seat passenger.
Guadarrama-Jimenez was engaged in a verbal argument with the driver as they traveled on Route 41. During the argument, Guadarrama-Jimenez intentionally grabbed the steering wheel and turned it, as the vehicle was in motion. This caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree.
After this Shields Township car crash, the driver and 1-year-old were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of their accident injuries. The 1-year-old was later transferred to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries.
Guadarrama-Jimenez and the 15-year-old were taken to Lake Forest Hospital for treatment of their accident injuries.
Another excerpt from the media release:
Guadarrama-Jimenez was released from the hospital, arrested, and charged with two counts of Reckless Conduct (one being a Class 4 Felony and one being Class A Misdemeanor).
Guadarrama-Jimenez remains held in the Lake County Jail on $75,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on September 18, 2018 at 1:30PM in courtroom T110.
