A Chicago-area snowstorm that has continued into this morning appears to be a major factor in dozens of car and vehicle accidents.
Although the snow accumulation is only expected to be one to two inches in general, the snow as well as cold temperatures has contributed to slick and hazardous road conditions.
An excerpt from a Chicago Tribune article of today titled “Snowy night causes dozens of crashes” :
Illinois State Police responded to 27 overnight crashes in the Chicago district alone, many more than the five or 10 the district normally responds to within the same period, police said.
Another 15 or so crashes were reported, but the drivers had left by the time police arrived, according to police.
One of the car accident reports was from Plainfield, in which a car appears to have run into a snowplow. This accident is recounted in today’s ABC7News article titled “Car smashes into snow plow truck, injuring 2; other accidents reported on slippery roadways.” The article also mentions various vehicle accidents on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources including the two articles mentioned above.
