There was a fatal vehicle accident this morning (February 5, 2014) in Barrington that happened when a snowplow fatally struck an employee at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
This fatal accident in Lake County happened as an employee of the hospital was walking across the parking lot at approximately 5:30 a.m. At that time, a snowplow backed into her. Some reports indicate that the employee went under the truck.
According to authorities, at the time of the accident, it was heavily snowing and visibility was limited.
The woman who was fatally struck was identified as Diane Shogren, 51, of Ingleside.
Two excerpts from the February 5, 2014 Chicago Tribune article titled “Hospital worker killed in snowplow crash” :
Officials weren’t sure how fast the truck was going, but said all safety equipment — including lights and backup alarm — were working on the truck, they said.
The driver of the snowplow got out of his truck after backing into Shogren and called for help, Rudd said. Employees from the hospital, located at 450 W. Illinois Highway 22, came out and brought Shogren inside, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
This fatal accident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
