An excerpt from the November 8 Elgin Courier-News article titled “Pedestrian dies after hit by car in Elgin” :

Pedestrian killed: Police were seeking witnesses to a fatal car-vs.-pedestrian accident on Summit Street over the weekend. Police said Ricky Tuxpan, 18, of the 200 block of Waverly Drive, died Monday after being struck by a car about 10 p.m. Saturday as he tried to cross four lanes of traffic in the 800 block of Summit, near the shopping center anchored by Jewel-Osco. Police spokeswoman Sue Olafson said investigators believe that a Saturn Vue driven by a 20-year-old woman struck Tuxpan while she was driving eastbound. Both Tuxpan and the woman were taken by ambulance to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Olafson said the driver was released from the hospital after treatment but that Tuxpan died there Monday morning.
