Update On Fatal Hit & Run Accident That Killed Gabby Drozdz

The July 23, 2011 blog post, titled “Teen Pedestrian Killed In Lake Zurich IL Hit & Run Accident,” told of the fatal hit & run accident of July 22 that took the life of Gabriella “Gabby” Drozdz, 18, of Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle that struck Drozdz and two friends as they walked along the gravel shoulder of Church Street has yet to be identified.

A January 31 Lake Zurich Patch.com article, titled “Lake Zurich Police Still Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run,” discusses the extensive efforts of the Lake Zurich Police Department to find the driver of the vehicle.

An excerpt from the article:

“We have put our heart and soul into solving this case; we understand there may be frustration and we are equally frustrated — we too want this person brought to justice,” said Sgt. Tracey Goodyear, a lead investigator on the case. “The amount of man-hours is into the thousands.”

Another excerpt from the article, which highlights an aspect of the accident:

Based on the little evidence there was, police were able to deduct that the driver did not hit the brakes and did not try to stop the vehicle after striking Drozdz.

The vehicle that struck the girls is now thought to be either a GMC Safari or Chevrolet Astro Van from model years 1985-94, to be of two-tone blue with a lighter accent color of either silver or gray.
