Warning Concerning Drifting Snow On Illinois Roadways

Today (January 21, 2014) the Illinois Department of Transportation issued a news release titled “IDOT Winter Crews Tackle Snowy and Icy Conditions Statewide.”  The news release notifies motorists of snow and ice-covered roads throughout the state of Illinois, and the driving hazards presented by these adverse road conditions.

An excerpt:

“Our crews will continue to be out in full force statewide as long as necessary to help ensure a safe commute for motorists,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider. “Due to high winds, blowing and drifting snow is a major concern. Motorists are encouraged to take it slow, give plow drivers plenty of room, buckle up and avoid distractions.”

The news release also contains a variety of “Other safety tips to remember” with regard to driving in winter, especially in snowy conditions, and how to minimize the potential for car crashes.

Additional details can be seen in the above-mentioned news release.
