Today (February 18, 2014) the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) issued a news release titled “Roads Snow and Ice Covered in Central and Northern Illinois.” This release warns of dangerous driving conditions resulting from snowfall in various Illinois areas, including Northern Illinois. This release discusses snow and ice covered roadways, which has produced many Lake County vehicle accidents over the last couple of days.
A couple of excerpts:
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that road conditions have improved in some areas throughout the state, where the snowfall and freezing rain has stopped. However, roads are still snow and ice covered in parts of central and northern Illinois, creating slick and dangerous conditions for Illinois motorists.
“Road conditions have improved in some areas of the state, but roads and bridges are still snow and ice covered from central to northern Illinois,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider. “IDOT winter weather crews are working diligently to keep roads clear, but motorists need to use extreme caution if they must travel to avoid any dangerous situations.”
The news release also contains a variety of “Other safety tips to remember” with regard to winter driving, especially in snowy, icy, and cold conditions, and how to minimize the potential for car crashes.
Additional details can be seen in the above-mentioned news release.
