Today (February 19, 2014) the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) issued a news release titled “IDOT Reminds Drivers to Watch for Standing Water on Pavement.” This release warns of possible hazardous driving conditions resulting from melting snow in Illinois. This melting can produce flooded roadways.
“The forecasted rain and thawing snow may lead to standing water and possible hazardous driving conditions on roadways throughout the state,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider. “Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when encountering standing water over the next several days.”
Additionally, the news release also suggests “Flooding-related driving tips.”
The news release also contains a variety of “Other safety tips to remember” with regard to winter driving, especially in snowy, icy, and cold conditions, and how to minimize the potential for car crashes.
Additional details can be seen in the above-mentioned news release.
