There was a fatal single-car accident on Route 41 near Gurnee, Illinois early Sunday morning.
Michael Smith, Jr., 26, of Waukegan was severely injured during the accident and died at the accident scene. He was said to be traveling southbound on Route 41 when he lost control of the car just south of Route 21. His vehicle left the roadway and hit two trees. Emergency responders came to the accident scene at 35730 N. Skokie Highway at 3:46 a.m.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
