A woman pedestrian was hit and killed by a Metra train in Vernon Hills yesterday, September 15.
Details are limited at this point.
The woman has yet to be positively identified, although a tentative identification has been made. According to Lake County Coroner Art Yancey, the condition of the woman’s body is making identification more difficult, as the body sustained massive injuries.
The woman was struck at Butterfield Road south of Illinois Route 60 just before 6 a.m. It is unclear if the death was an accident or suicide.
Additional details and possible updates can be found in the September 16 Mundelein Review article titled “Investigation continues in Vernon Hills train fatality.”
