There has been a wrongful death lawsuit filed concerning the death of Lauren Marie LeVert, 29, of Lake Forest. She died after being struck by a freight train in Deerfield, Illinois in 2010.
The lawsuit was filed by her parents.
Three excerpts from a November 5 story in the Lake County News-Sun titled “Three defendants named in train death suit” :
Lauren Marie LeVert, 29, of Lake Forest, was killed in October 2010 at the Deerfield train station when she became confused by the circumstances surrounding her and stepped or fell off the platform into the path of an oncoming freight train and was killed instantly, according to the suit.
The suit claims at the time of her death, LeVert was under the influence of medications prescribed by employees of Rush University Medical Center that caused her to be disoriented from time to time.
The two-count lawsuit, filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court, claims gross negligence by Canadian Pacific and Metra in allowing the dangerous conditions at the Deerfield station and gross negligence of personnel at Rush University Medical Center for incorrectly prescribing the drugs.
