Across Lake County there were adverse driving conditions this morning (November 11, 2019) caused by snowfall, cold weather and icy roadways. These adverse driving conditions in Lake County contributed to many vehicle accidents and other difficult situations, such as stuck and stalled vehicles.
While the snowfall varies by region, Lake County generally got 3″-6″ inches of snowfall . This snowfall, winds, and cold (for the season) temperatures contributed to slick conditions and slow drive times. Many types of accidents occurred throughout the Chicago area including “spinouts” and “slideoffs” (i.e. where the vehicle slides off the roadway.)
A review of Lake County crash information shows accidents in many different areas in the county. A small sample include crashes on Route 41 in Highland Park; Route 83 in Grayslake; Route 53 in Long Grove; Route 22 in Lake Barrington; Route 43 (Waukegan Road) in Bannockburn); and Midlothian Road in Hawthorne Woods. Other accidents occurred in Round Lake Beach, Waukegan, and Lindenhurst.
In addition, there were various reports of “stalled” vehicles.
On this site, tips and warnings concerning adverse driving conditions are found in posts seen in the “traffic safety” category. One of these posts, that of February 1, 2015 (“Warning Concerning Lake County Hazardous Driving Conditions“) discusses the hazards presented by “black ice.” While the conditions for black ice formation were not necessarily present this morning, very cold weather expected this evening and overnight may trigger its formation.
