There was a fatal Wadsworth traffic accident Sunday (December 16, 2018) night along Route 41. The accident lead to the death of a motorist.
This fatal Wadsworth traffic accident involved a car “rear-ending” a semi truck. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to the accident scene at approximately 10:15 p.m.
The accident is discussed in the Lake County Sheriff’s Office media release of December 17, 2018 titled “Fatal Wadsworth Traffic Crash.”
Preliminary investigation shows a 2012 Freightliner Tractor/Trailer, driven by a 46-year-old man of Alger, Ohio, was northbound on Route 41. The driver of the Freightliner stopped at a red light at Wadsworth Road. When the light turned green, the driver of the Freightliner started to accelerate and was struck in the rear by a northbound 2005 Chrysler 300 (positive driver identification pending). According to a witness, the Chrysler was traveling at a high-rate of speed just prior to the crash.
The driver of the Chrysler died at the accident scene. He was later identified by the Lake County Coroner’s Office as Roderick Richardson, 47, of Kenosha, WI.
This fatal Wadsworth traffic accident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
Speed as a contributing factor to crashes is discussed on the “Speed As An Accident Cause And The Potential For Serious Injuries” page. As discussed on that page, for many reasons driving at excessive speed increases both the possibility of a crash, and also the seriousness of accident injuries.
