Fatal Wauconda Collision Along Route 12 Involving Two Cars

There was a fatal Wauconda collision Friday (March 15, 2019) night. The accident occurred along Route 12.

Police were called to the accident scene at 10:15 p.m. According to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department, the fatal Wauconda collision occurred when a southbound Hyundai Elantra crossed the center median and went into the northbound lanes. The car then collided with an oncoming Ford Focus.

The Ford Focus had four occupants; the 16-year-old female driver; two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old. All of these four occupants were from McHenry.

The Elantra’s sole occupant was a 18-year-old man from Cary.

All of the occupants from both vehicles were hurt. The drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. One of the 14-year-old passengers was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for medical treatment. The remaining vehicle occupants were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington for treatment of their accident injuries.

The 16-year-old female driver later passed away from her accident injuries. She was later identified as Danielle Thomas. She attended McHenry West High School.

This fatal Wauconda collision remains under investigation, and charges are reported to be pending.

Fatal Libertyville Township Crash On Peterson Road

There was a fatal Libertyville Township crash Saturday (March 2, 2019) on Peterson Road near Route 137. The crash was a collision between a car and minivan.

As often discussed on this site, frontal collisions between two vehicles traveling in opposite directions (which can be “head-on collisions”) often lead to serious accident injuries, and in many cases fatalities to various vehicle occupants. In this fatal Libertyville Township crash, the driver of one of the vehicles passed away from his accident injuries, and two other people were injured and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m., as a 21-year-old Waukegan man was driving a Mazda 6 westbound on Peterson Road. At that time, for a currently undetermined reason, there was an apparent loss of vehicle control and the car crossed the median and drove into oncoming traffic.

The Mazda struck an oncoming Toyota Sienna minivan that was driven by a 45-year-old woman by Johnsburg. There was also an 8-year child passenger in the car.

The man driving the Mazda was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

The woman and the child passenger in the minivan were also taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries. They were then released.

An autopsy is planned for the deceased driver of the Mazda, at which time his identity will be publicly disclosed.

This fatal Libertyville Township crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Unincorporated Cary Traffic Crash Seriously Injures Driver

An unincorporated Cary traffic crash occurred on the evening of February 28, 2019. This unincorporated traffic crash appears to have involved a loss of vehicle control, resulting in a SUV crashing into a tree.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, in a March 1, 2019 media release titled “Serious Unincorporated Cary Traffic Crash,” Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the accident scene at 10:50 p.m. The crash occurred in the vicinity of West Fox River Road and West Short Street.

An excerpt from the release:

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a single-vehicle (2013 Toyota Highlander), which struck a tree.  The Toyota sustained significant damage and the driver, a 57-year-old man of McHenry, was entrapped inside the vehicle.  

Preliminary investigation shows the man was traveling eastbound on Fox River Road, when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.  Due to the serious damage, it took over an hour for the man to be extricated from the vehicle. 

After extrication, the driver was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of his accident injuries. His injuries are considered to be serious in nature, although not life-threatening.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

The accident investigation of this unincorporated Cary traffic crash is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Avon Township Crash At Rollins Road And Route 45

There was an Avon Township crash on Friday evening, February 22, 2019. This Avon Township crash happened at the intersection of Rollins Road and Route 45. The accident involved three vehicles.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Duputies were dispatched the accident scene at 6:40 p.m.

An excerpt from the media release from the February 23, 2019 Lake County Sheriff’s Office titled “Serious Avon Township Traffic Crash“:

Preliminary investigation shows a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 22-year-old man of Round Lake Beach was traveling eastbound on Rollins Road.  The traffic light for Rollins Road traffic at Route 45 was red.  The driver of the Chevrolet disobeyed the red light and entered the intersection, striking a northbound 2005 Honda Accord, driven by a 33-year-old man of Grayslake.  The Honda then struck a 2013 Subaru Legacy (which was stopped facing westbound on Rollins Road just east of the intersection), driven by a 54-year-old man of Third Lake.

During this Avon Township crash, the driver of the Chevrolet was ejected (thrown from) from his SUV.  He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of his accident injuries. His injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.  

The driver of the Honda was also taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for medical treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  

The occupants of the Subaru – the driver and a 16-year-old female passenger – were uninjured.

The accident investigation of this Avon Township crash is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.

Wadsworth Traffic Accident Leads To Driver Fatality

A Wadsworth traffic accident occurred on Saturday (February 9, 2019) evening. This Wadsworth traffic accident was a “head-on collision” that led to the death of one driver and two other vehicle occupants were seriously injured.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, in a February 10, 2019 media release titled “Fatal Wadsworth Traffic Crash,” the “head-on collision” occurred on Delaney Road, just south of Wadsworth Road. Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputies began to go to the accident scene at approximately 7:50 p.m.

An excerpt regarding this Wadsworth traffic accident:

Preliminary investigation shows a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 17-year-old female of Zion, was traveling northbound on Delany Road.  A 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by a 55-year-old male of Beach Park was traveling southbound on Delany Road.  Based on preliminary information at this time, it appears the driver of the Hyundai crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes of traffic.  The Chrysler and Hyundai struck head-on in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Chrsyler was taken to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan and was subsequently pronounced dead.

Another occupant in the Chrysler, a 32-year-old man, was also taken to Vista East Hospital for medical treatment of serious accident injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of her accident injuries. These injuries were considered to be serious injuries.

An autopsy has been scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office for the driver of the Chrysler.

This Wadsworth traffic accident investigation continues and is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
