Route 41 Single-Vehicle Crash North Of Westleigh Road

A Route 41 single-vehicle crash occurred early Friday (March 29, 2019) north of Westleigh Road. At the time of the crash, the vehicle was traveling northbound. One person died and three other people were injured. The woman that died was later identified as Sierra Riley, 20, of Zion.

An excerpt regarding this accident, which appears to have involved a loss of vehicle control for an unknown reason, from the March 29, 2019 Daily Herald article titled “One dead, three injured in crash on Route 41 in Lake Forest“:

Lake Forest police and fire responded to the single-vehicle crash on northbound Route 41, north of Westleigh Road, at 3:56 a.m.

Additional discussion regarding loss of vehicle control accidents can be seen on the “Lake County Loss Of Control Accidents” page. As discussed on that page, loss of control can be caused by many different factors. Some of these factors, such as traffic hazards, are beyond the driver’s control. However, other crashes in which the driver loses control of the vehicle are caused by driver negligence.

If the vehicle leaves the roadway, often it will collide with a fixed object such as a tree, utility poll or other fixed object. These collisions often lead to serious, if not life-threatening injuries.
