Driving While Drug-Impaired Leading To Illinois Accidents

Driving while drug-impaired continues to be a leading cause of accidents, including those accidents that involve injuries.

As seen in various Illinois accidents in which the driver was drug-impaired, many different types of drug use can cause driver impairment and the potential for an accident.  In addition to drug use, there is other types of impairment that can be caused by ingesting or inhaling chemicals.  Inhaling chemicals, often referred to as “huffing,” has caused at least one fatal Lake County vehicle accident.

Common drugs used by those driving while drug-impaired include marijuana, cocaine, meth, and heroin.  However, there are a broad range of drugs that typically are used.

There was a recent Illinois vehicle accident in Christian County which involved a collision between a bus and pickup truck.  Subsequent to the crash, the driver of the pickup truck was ticketed for driving under the influence of drugs.

The wandtv.com article (with video) of September 25, 2018, titled “Police:  Driver high on drugs runs into school bus” discusses the crash.

As seen the article, the crash involved a pickup truck “rear-ending” a stopped school bus that had its warning lights on.  No one was injured because of the collision.

An excerpt from the article:

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Carter Flowers of Nokomis was ticketed for driving under the influence of drugs and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A lit marijuana cigarette was found on the dashboard of the truck.

Additional details regarding these accidents involving driving while drug-impaired can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
