An excerpt regarding this Lake Zurich motorcycle crash, from the April 23 Daily Herald article titled “Injured Des Plaines firefighter removed from life support“:

Motorists “not seeing” motorcycles continues to be a major traffic safety problem in Illinois as well as nationally. As seen in fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents, as well as those in Lake County (many of which have been summarized on this site in posts found under the “Motorcycle Accidents” category) this is a leading cause of collisions between motorcycles and other vehicles. These collisions, in which other drivers do “not see” motorcycles, often occur suddenly and can be very hard for the motorcyclist to predict and avoid.

Fatal Antioch Township Motorcycle Accident July 13, 2018

There was a fatal Antioch Township motorcycle accident early Friday (July 13, 2018) morning.  Based on preliminary accident investigation findings, this Lake County motorcycle accident appears to have involved a motorcycle loss of control that involved the motorcycle leaving the roadway and crashing.

An excerpt regarding the crash, from the July 13, 2018 Lake County Sheriff’s Department media release titled “Fatal Antioch Township Motorcycle Crash“:

On July 13, 2018, at approximately 5:15AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of West Grass Lake Road and Kathryn Drive, Antioch Township, for a report of a motorcycle down.  Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located a 1999 Honda Motorcycle on the south side of the roadway.  After a brief search for the driver, he (an adult male of Lake Villa Township – identification pending notification of next of kin) was located in the tree line near the motorcycle, deceased.

According to the release, findings from the preliminary accident investigation of this fatal Antioch Township motorcycle accident indicates that it occurred as the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Grass Lake Road, just west of Kathryn Drive, when the bike left the roadway to the east.  After leaving the roadway, the motorcycle struck a tree and the motorcyclist was seriously injured.  It appears as if the reason for the apparent loss of control has yet to be determined.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy.
