Truck Accidents That Occur In Lake County, Illinois

Truck accidents is a subject that is discussed on the “Lake County Truck Accidents” page.  This page discusses various Lake County truck accident statistics, and discusses various aspects of truck accidents, including the causes of truck accidents.

There are many reasons as to why trucks are vulnerable to being in accidents.  Among these reasons is that due to their weight, trucks take longer to slow or stop.  As well, this weight makes vehicle handling challenging, especially under adverse conditions.

As well, due to the potential for shifting weight and other factors, trucks are susceptible to rolling over, either before or after a collision.

One such Lake County semi truck rollover accident happened on October 16, 2018 on I-94 near IL-120 which is in the Gurnee area.   Details on this accident appear limited at this time; the reason for the rollover does not appear to be publicly disclosed at this time.

As seen in the accident scene photo seen in the October 16, 2018 wgntv.com article titled “Semi truck crash closes southbound lanes on I-94 near IL-120,” the truck completely rolled over.  This crash was particularly concerning as the truck’s cargo was said to be some type of corrosive material that was considered to be hazardous.

I-94 was closed and partially closed, which caused traffic disruptions for hours.

Additional details regarding Lake County truck accidents can be seen in the sources mentioned above.

Factors That Lead To Truck Accidents

Truck accidents that occur in Lake County are discussed on the “Lake County Truck Accidents” page.  This page discusses various Lake County truck accident statistics, and discusses various aspects of truck accidents, including the causes of truck accidents.

An excerpt from that page:

As seen in crash data statistics provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), in 2014 there were over 300 semi truck accidents in Lake County.  Of these accidents, 2 were fatal.

(Individual posts that summarize truck accidents (and related issues) that have happened in Lake County are seen under the “Truck Accidents” category.)

Newly-released research seen in Medline Plus (National Institutes of Health) discusses another factor that appears to have an influence on truck crashes – the health of the truck driver.

An excerpt from the January 19, 2017 Medline Plus page titled “Truckers’ Poor Health:  An Accident Waiting to Happen?“:

Researchers examined data from more than 49,000 commercial truck drivers and found that 34 percent had at least one of several health problems — such as heart disease, low back pain and diabetes — that have been linked with poor driving performance.

Truck drivers with three or more of the flagged medical conditions were two to four times more likely to be in a crash than their healthier peers, the University of Utah researchers found.

For example, the rate of crashes resulting in injury among all truck drivers was 29 per 100 million miles traveled, but was 93 per 100 million miles traveled for drivers with three or more of the identified health problems.

However, the study wasn’t designed to prove a cause-and-effect link.

Additional details and possible updates concerning these truck accident issues can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
