Driving in the wrong direction on a highway or other roadway continues to pose a substantial traffic safety risk. On this site traffic accidents in which someone has been driving in the wrong direction are seen in posts under the “Wrong-Way Drivers” category.
As seen in those accidents, many have resulted in serious injuries. Often, these accidents are “head-on collisions” which are among the most physically traumatic vehicle accidents. As discussed on the “Accidents Involving ‘Head-On Collisions’” page, often these accidents result in life-threatening injuries to the vehicle occupants involved, and fatalities routinely occur.
An excerpt from that page:
“Wrong-Way Drivers” have caused many accidents, including many fatal accidents. As seen in the posts under the “Wrong-Way Drivers” category, there have been various incidents and crashes in the Chicago area, as well as Lake County, over the last few years. Due to the fact that people driving in the wrong direction are typically unexpected, and driving directly against the flow of traffic, “head-on collisions” are likely during “wrong-way driver” accidents.
As also discussed on that page, while there can be many reasons as to why a driver may be traveling in the wrong direction, driver impairment due to alcohol and/or drug use continues to be a leading cause.
The Lake Forest – Lake Bluff Patch of November 29, 2019, in an article titled “DUI Arrests After Crashes…” discusses an alleged act of wrong-way driving. This wrong-way driving occurred on Route 41 in the 400 block of Skokie Highway on the evening of September 23. This “wrong-way driver” was involved in a two-car accident.
An excerpt from this Lake Forest Patch article concerning the female driver:
Police reported she provided a breath sample indicating she had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system. She was also issued citations for improper lane usage — driving on the wrong side of a divided highway — and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. A pre-trial hearing is set for Dec. 20.
Additional details concerning this subject of driving in the wrong direction can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
