There was a Lake County crash early Sunday morning (January 10, 2016) in which a Lake County Sheriff police car was hit by another car.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Route 12 near Russell Drive in Volo.
At that time, a driver struck the rear of the police car. At the time of the crash, the Deputy was inside the police car and the police car had its emergency lights on. It had stopped to block a lane of traffic in order for a tow truck to pull a vehicle from a ditch.
Both the driver of the car that struck the police car, as well as the Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy, was injured in the crash. Both were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for treatment of their accident injuries, which were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
The driver of the car that struck the patrol car was identified as Gaitano W. Lombardo, 20, of Wauconda.
