There was a fatal Libertyville Township crash Saturday (March 2, 2019) on Peterson Road near Route 137. The crash was a collision between a car and minivan.
As often discussed on this site, frontal collisions between two vehicles traveling in opposite directions (which can be “head-on collisions”) often lead to serious accident injuries, and in many cases fatalities to various vehicle occupants. In this fatal Libertyville Township crash, the driver of one of the vehicles passed away from his accident injuries, and two other people were injured and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m., as a 21-year-old Waukegan man was driving a Mazda 6 westbound on Peterson Road. At that time, for a currently undetermined reason, there was an apparent loss of vehicle control and the car crossed the median and drove into oncoming traffic.
The Mazda struck an oncoming Toyota Sienna minivan that was driven by a 45-year-old woman by Johnsburg. There was also an 8-year child passenger in the car.
The man driving the Mazda was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.
The woman and the child passenger in the minivan were also taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries. They were then released.
An autopsy is planned for the deceased driver of the Mazda, at which time his identity will be publicly disclosed.
This fatal Libertyville Township crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
