This fatal Lake County accident is discussed in a variety of media sources, including the Lake County Sheriff Office’s media release of February 27, 2020 titled “Fatal Long Grove Traffic Crash.”
An excerpt from the release:
Preliminary investigation shows a semi-truck, pulling a full-size trailer, driven by an adult male, was traveling northbound on Route 83, approaching Westmoreland Drive. The trailer was loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of cargo. A 2015 Toyota minivan, driven by a 45-year-old female of Vernon Hills, was traveling southbound on Route 83, and was attempting to turn left onto eastbound Westmoreland Drive.
The semi-truck collided with the Toyota, as the Toyota was turning left. It appears the driver of the semi-truck tried to avoid the collision by veering right. After colliding with the Toyota, the semi-truck struck a traffic light pole and came to rest in a ditch. The driver of the semi-truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses report the traffic light was yellow for Route 83 at the time of the crash.
This fatal Long Grove collision is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. An autopsy is scheduled for the deceased truck driver.
