On early Sunday (May 23, 2021) morning there was a fatal Route 176 motorcycle crash. This crash happened at Route 176 and Fairfield Road in Fremont Township.
This fatal Route 176 motorcycle crash is discussed in the May 23, 2021 Lake County Sheriff’s Office media release titled “Fatal Fremont Township Motorcycle Crash.” An excerpt:
On May 23, 2021, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Route 176 and Fairfield Road, Fremont Township, for a report of a motorcycle down. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a Yamaha Motorcycle off the roadway, just north of the roadway. After a brief search, they located the operator of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old man of Wauconda, fatally injured.
Preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle operator was traveling westbound on Route 176 at a high rate of speed. As he approached the Fairfield Road intersection, he lost control of the motorcycle, left the roadway, and struck a traffic standard. The man, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This Route 176 motorcycle crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the media release mentioned above.
Loss of motorcycle control remains a leading cause of motorcycle accidents. As seen in the Lake County motorcycle accidents summarized on this site, these loss of control crashes often result in serious injuries. Many of the fatal motorcycle accidents have resulted due to some type of loss of control.
The subject of loss of control is further discussed on the “Lake County Loss Of Control Accidents” page. As discussed on that page, there are many factors that can lead to a vehicle loss of control. For many reasons, a motorcycle loss of control is particularly hazardous, and once a motorcyclist starts to lose control it can be difficult to regain control.
