Fatal Wauconda Collision Along Route 12 Involving Two Cars

There was a fatal Wauconda collision Friday (March 15, 2019) night. The accident occurred along Route 12.

Police were called to the accident scene at 10:15 p.m. According to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department, the fatal Wauconda collision occurred when a southbound Hyundai Elantra crossed the center median and went into the northbound lanes. The car then collided with an oncoming Ford Focus.

The Ford Focus had four occupants; the 16-year-old female driver; two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old. All of these four occupants were from McHenry.

The Elantra’s sole occupant was a 18-year-old man from Cary.

All of the occupants from both vehicles were hurt. The drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. One of the 14-year-old passengers was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for medical treatment. The remaining vehicle occupants were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington for treatment of their accident injuries.

The 16-year-old female driver later passed away from her accident injuries. She was later identified as Danielle Thomas. She attended McHenry West High School.

This fatal Wauconda collision remains under investigation, and charges are reported to be pending.
