Driving while intoxicated continues to be a major national traffic problem. As seen in Lake County as well as throughout Illinois, there continues to be many accidents caused by motorists who are driving while intoxicated. On this site Lake County accidents with injuries involving drunk drivers are summarized in posts found under the “DUI” category.
While in the past impaired driving typically involved drunk driving, increasingly drug use is causing drivers to drive while impaired. Dangerous levels of driver impairment often result after drug use, and this impairment level can be further increased by mixed drug use and/or drinking of alcohol with the drug use. The subject of drug use and driver impairment is further discussed on the “Car Accidents Involving Drivers Under The Influence Of Drugs” page.
A January 14, 2019 “Police Blotter” article seen in the Highland Park Patch summarizes a number of alleged driving while intoxicated incidents in Highland Park. Of the three incidents summarized, two involved drivers who were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The third incident involved a driver who was charged with driving under the influence of drugs. His vehicle left the roadway.
Additional details regarding driving while intoxicated and other types of driver impairment can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
