Vehicles traveling at high speeds threaten traffic safety. When a vehicle travels at high speed, the possibility of a crash increases for various reasons. As seen in many Lake County accidents summarized on this site, driving at excessive speeds has contributed to many serious injuries, including those that ended with fatalities. In many cases, this negligent driving caused crashes that hurt others not involved in the speeding, such as other motorists or others, such as pedestrians. Some of this high-speed driving occurred due to street racing or drag racing.
Various aspects of the risks of driving at high speeds are discussed on the “Speed As An Accident Cause And The Potential For Serious Injuries” page. As discussed on that page, traveling at excessive speeds not only increases the likelihood of a crash, but also increases the likelihood that accident injuries will be serious in nature. Various statistics are featured.
