One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Route 41 in North Chicago, authorities said. The collision happened at about 8:30 a.m. after a car headed south on Route 41 went off the road near Route 137 and into a ditch.
After the car went into the ditch it caught on fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
This North Chicago Route 41 crash remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
It is unknown as to what caused the loss of control which led to the car going off the road.
Loss of control remains a primary reason for vehicle accidents. These types of accidents are further discussed on the “Lake County Loss Of Control Accidents” page. One reason that these accidents often lead to serious crash injuries is that the vehicle often leaves the roadway as the driver loses control, at which point it is vulnerable to running into fixed objects. These fixed objects include telephone poles, utility poles, utility boxes, and trees. If the vehicle goes into a ditch it can be vulnerable to rolling over, which is often physically traumatic to vehicle occupants.
As discussed on the Loss of Control accidents page mentioned above, there are many reasons why a driver can lose control of the vehicle. In Lake County there have been many serious accidents that have occurred after the driver has lost control of the vehicle. Many of these injuries have led to fatalities.
