An excerpt from the Chicago Tribune article of October 4, 2011 titled “Odds of hitting a deer in Illinois: 1 in 250” :

The chances of hitting a deer in Illinois with your car are 1 in 250.

Those are the odds computed by State Farm Insurance in Bloomington, Ill., the nation’s largest auto insurer, which says the number of deer-vehicle collisions overall has dropped for the third year in a row.

The odds in Illinois actually rank it near the bottom, at 32nd among states.

Neighboring Wisconsin is seventh on the list at 1 in 97. The odds in Indiana are 1 in 178, which places it 25th, and in Iowa 1 in 77, good enough for second place.

Odds are computed comparing numbers of licensed drivers against deer-related accidents, the insurer said.
