Truck Accidents That Occur In Lake County, Illinois

Truck accidents is a subject that is discussed on the “Lake County Truck Accidents” page.  This page discusses various Lake County truck accident statistics, and discusses various aspects of truck accidents, including the causes of truck accidents.

There are many reasons as to why trucks are vulnerable to being in accidents.  Among these reasons is that due to their weight, trucks take longer to slow or stop.  As well, this weight makes vehicle handling challenging, especially under adverse conditions.

As well, due to the potential for shifting weight and other factors, trucks are susceptible to rolling over, either before or after a collision.

One such Lake County semi truck rollover accident happened on October 16, 2018 on I-94 near IL-120 which is in the Gurnee area.   Details on this accident appear limited at this time; the reason for the rollover does not appear to be publicly disclosed at this time.

As seen in the accident scene photo seen in the October 16, 2018 wgntv.com article titled “Semi truck crash closes southbound lanes on I-94 near IL-120,” the truck completely rolled over.  This crash was particularly concerning as the truck’s cargo was said to be some type of corrosive material that was considered to be hazardous.

I-94 was closed and partially closed, which caused traffic disruptions for hours.

Additional details regarding Lake County truck accidents can be seen in the sources mentioned above.

Lake Villa Township Minivan Crash Causes Serious Injuries

A Lake Villa Township minivan crash on early Saturday (October 13, 2018) caused serious injuries to the van’s driver.  The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.  This accident appears to have involved a vehicle loss of control.

An excerpt regarding the crash, from the October 13, 2018 Lake County Sheriff’s Office media release titled “Serious Lake Villa Township Traffic Crash“:

On October 13, 2018, at approximately 1:15AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 39200 block of Route 45, Lake Villa Township, for a traffic crash with injuries.  Deputies arrived and located a 2003 Dodge Caravan with extensive damage and an ejected occupant.

Preliminary investigation shows the driver, a 43-year-old man, of Union Grove, Wisconsin, was traveling southbound on Route 45 north of West Grass Lake Road.  For an unknown reason the driver crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic, drove off the east side of the roadway, and into a ditch.  The Dodge rolled over and the driver was ejected.

The driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of his accident injuries, which were considered to be serious in nature.

This Lake Villa Township minivan crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.  According to the media release, the traffic crash investigation will determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Speeding In Lake County Including Highland Park Incidents

Speeding in Lake County continues to present a traffic safety hazard.  As discussed on the “Speed As An Accident Cause And The Potential For Serious Injuries” page, statistics indicate that driving at excessive speed often contributes to or causes a driver to crash.  As well, driving at higher speeds often causes accident injuries to be much greater in severity.  This speeding often accompanies driver impairments such as driving while intoxicated by alcohol or driving while drug-impaired.

The Highland Park Patch article of October 1, 2018, titled “DUI Driver Was Speeding At Least 40 MPH Over Limit:  HP Blotter” mentions various alleged instances of speeding in Lake County.  As seen in the article, a number of incidents in Highland Park resulted in drivers being charged with DUI and other charges such as improper lane usage and running a red light.  Some of the drivers were cited for speeding as well; one was cited for driving at least 40 mph over the speed limit.

Additional details regarding these issues regarding speeding in Lake County can be seen in the sources mentioned above.

Pedestrian Accidents In Lake County And The Resulting Injuries

Pedestrian accidents in Lake County, as well as elsewhere, typically lead to a range of serious accident injuries.  When a person is hit by a vehicle, the person’s body is often subject to very strong and unnatural physical forces.  On this site, Lake County pedestrian accidents and the injuries they have caused are discussed on the “Lake County Pedestrian Accidents” page.  Individual pedestrian accidents in Lake County, many of which have resulted in fatalities, are summarized in posts found under the “Pedestrian Accidents” category.

One type of injury that can occur when a vehicle hits a person is a head injury.  As discussed on the “Head Injuries That Occur During Accidents” page, there are many types of brain injuries that can vary significantly in severity and impact on one’s health and vitality.  While some minor concussions can cause issues that may take a couple of weeks to recover from, other brain injuries can have much greater health impacts.  Many brain injuries that result from vehicle accidents have resulted in fatalities.  For non-fatal serious brain injuries, the adverse health impact can last for months, if not indefinitely.  Depending upon the type of brain injury, hospitalization, surgery, and/or significant amounts of physical and occupational rehabilitation may be required, as well as other forms of medical treatment and care.

On August 10, 2018 there was a Lindenhurst pedestrian accident involving a 5-year-old girl (Leah Dinchak.)  This accident was discussed in two posts, the latest being “Lindenhurst Pedestrian Accident Update Concerning Girl’s Injuries.”  In that August 23 post, her injuries and condition were discussed.

On October 10, 2018 NBC Chicago ran a segment (video and article) titled “‘Better Than Ever’:  5-Year-Old Girl Recovering After Van Accident Left Her In Coma” that provided additional information concerning Leah’s condition as well as her rehabilitation.  An upcoming benefit is also mentioned.

Two excerpts from the article:

Just two months ago Leah fell into a coma after she was hit by a van in Lindenhurst. She suffered brain swelling and an injury to her spine, yet not one broken bone.

also:

Stephany Kunzweiler, Leah’s physical therapist, is key to her progress.

“It’s almost as if she needs to relearn all of her motor skills again like she was when she was an infant,” Kunzweiler said.

Additional details regarding pedestrian accidents in Lake County, including Leah’s accident and subsequent recovery and rehabilitation, can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
