Route 41 Crash With Injuries Involving Violation Of Scott’s Law

Route 41 crashes in Lake County remain numerous. There are many reasons why these accidents occur. Route 41 crashes are prone to happen as much traffic travels along this roadway. As well, intersection accidents can occur at various intersections including those at both Park Avenue West and Route 22.

Early Saturday (June 26, 2021) morning there was a collision involving a Lake Forest Police car and another vehicle. This collision is discussed in the June 26, 2021 Lake & McHenry County Scanner article titled “Driver cited after hitting Lake Forest police car on Route 41, officials say.” An excerpt:

A driver was cited for violating Scott’s Law after they struck a police squad car as the officer was checking on a broken-down car in Lake Forest early Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of Route 41 south of Gage Lane in Lake Forest.

The Lake Forest Police Department said that a police officer had pulled over to the right shoulder to check on a disabled vehicle.

The squad car had its emergency lights activated and the officer was outside of the car speaking with the broken-down motorist.

A vehicle traveling northbound struck the rear of the officer’s squad car, officials said, adding “incredibly, the officer was not injured.”

During this Route 41 crash, at least one person was injured and taken to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital.

Additional details can be seen in the article mentioned above.

Discussion of Scott’s Law can be seen in the “What Is Scott’s Law…” post. As seen in that post, Scott’s Law aims to protect various parties (police officers, firemen, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and other workers) when they are parked in traffic on the side of the road. Being near moving traffic carries significant risks. Scott’s Law is intended to help mitigate some of those risks and therefore prevent accidents.
