A school bus that was carrying school children was involved in a rollover accident in Newport Township in Illinois. The children were from Newport Elementary School in Wadsworth, Illinois, a school with children ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade.
The accident happened as the school bus was traveling westbound on Route 173 at Kilbourne at approximately 8:05 a.m.
According to preliminary media reports, it appears as if the school bus driver may have run a red light, and collided with two SUVs near Wadsworth, Illinois. The school bus “rolled over” during the course of the accident.
While numerous children on the bus suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals, one of the drivers of the SUVs died from injuries suffered during the accident.
The accident remains under investigation.
