There was a fatal car accident in Waukegan, Illinois on Friday evening, March 22. The accident is being attributed to illegal street racing.
According to Waukegan Police, the accident happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just east of Waukegan Road. The teenager who was struck and killed during the accident, a sophomore at Waukegan High School, has been identified as Jose Pimentel, 17. He was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
The driver of the car that struck Pimentel is Mario Garcia, 18, of Waukegan. He has been charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and aggravated street racing.
According to Waukegan Police, Pimentel was on the roadway at the time of the fatal car accident, and he was apparently attempting to cross the road at the time Garcia’s car struck him.
