A Wadsworth high-speed crash occurred Saturday (April 25, 2020) at the intersection of Wadsworth Road and Delany Road. The crash led to the death of the driver at the accident scene.
According to police, this Wadsworth high-speed crash occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m., when a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was traveling westbound and allegedly speeding. The crash happened at Wadsworth Road and Delany Road.
An excerpt regarding this Wadsworth high-speed crash, as discussed in the April 25, 2020 Daily Herald article titled “One dead after single-vehicle crash in Wadsworth“:
The driver of the Pontiac lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway to the north. The car likely rolled before striking a traffic signal pole at the intersection. Due to the speed, the Pontiac wrapped around the traffic signal, police said.
Lake County sheriff deputies determined the vehicle was occupied by only the male driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
The driver was later identified by the Lake County Coroner, Dr. Howard Cooper, as Jonathan Lechuga, 24, of Round Lake Beach. He died from multiple traumatic injuries due to the accident.
This Wadsworth high-speed crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
Additional details and possible updates can be seen in the article mentioned above. As well, a May 4 Lake & McHenry County Scanner article (“Coroner IDs 24-year-old man…“) also discusses the accident and displays a photo of the accident scene.
Speed, and its role in causing accidents, is discussed on the “Speed As An Accident Cause And The Potential For Serious Injuries” page. Driving at higher speeds both increases the likelihood of an accident, as well as increases the probability of serious accident injuries.
