On March 6, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Stearns School Road east of Route 45, Warren Township, for a traffic crash with injures. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 2009 Audi TTS with extreme damage.
Preliminary investigation shows the Audi, driven by a 23-year-old man of Waukegan, was traveling westbound on Stearns School Road at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail on the north side of the roadway. A passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old man of Hainesville, was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected. Both the driver and the passenger sustained major injuries.
Both the driver and passenger were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of their accident injuries. Both of the men were later declared deceased. The men were identified as Silvano Aldana-Macias, 23, of Waukegan, and Gerardo Cruz, 23, of Hainesville.
The accident investigation is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
