A Waukegan fatal bicycle accident occurred on the evening of June 4, 2020. This accident was a “hit & run” accident. A driver has now been charged in relation to the incident.
This Waukegan fatal bicycle accident is discussed in the July 16, 2020 Lake & McHenry County Scanner article titled “Zion woman charged in fatal hit-and-run of bicyclist in Waukegan.” An excerpt:
The Waukegan Police Department said that Chad Aiello, 37, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, was riding his bicycle around 11:30 p.m. on June 4.
Officers found a man, later identified as Aiello, who was badly injured in the 3600 block of North Lewis Avenue.
Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip said that an ambulance transported Aiello to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was later pronounced dead.
The Waukegan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit (MCU) was called to investigate.
Investigators learned Aiello was riding a bicycle southbound on Lewis Avenue in the northbound lanes.
It was later determined by Waukegan Police that Aiello was struck by a 2015 Cadillac SUV. The alleged driver of that SUV, identified as Linda J. Ray, 47, of Zion, turned herself into Waukegan Police. She was charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

“Hit & run” accidents can occur for a number of reasons. A driver can have various reasons for wanting to leave the scene of an accident. Often, the driver wants to leave the accident scene as the driver does not want to be held responsible for the consequences of negligent actions that have caused injury or death to another person or persons.
Often, drivers who flee the accident scene are impaired either by alcohol and/or drugs. Impairment caused by drug use is further discussed on the “Car Accidents Involving Drivers Under The Influence Of Drugs” page.
