The Zion Police Department said that a Ford sedan was traveling northbound on Lewis Avenue when it crossed over the southbound lanes for an unknown reason and left the roadway.
Police said that the vehicle went into the ditch and came to a rest after striking a tree. The driver and sole occupant, a 23-year-old Waukegan man, was trapped in his vehicle.
The man was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, police said. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper later identified the man as Roderick Eastman. According to Cooper, Eastman died from multiple traumatic injuries during the accident.
This Zion fatal car crash remains under investigation by the Zion Police Department and Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).
Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the article mentioned above.
Accidents that occur after a vehicle leaves the roadway are further discussed on the “Accidents In Which Vehicles Leave The Roadway” page. As discussed on that page, there can be many reasons as to why a vehicle leaves the roadway. Once a vehicle leaves the roadway, it becomes vulnerable to running into a fixed object or rolling over in certain instances. In either of these situations, the vehicle occupants are often seriously injured, and often fatal injuries occur. There have been many Lake County accidents in which a loss of vehicle control has led to a vehicle leaving the roadway, leading to an accident with injuries.
